I think it's important to separate the movement to a globalized economy and the implications of international value chain on jobs (developed in the west, manufactured in Asia) with the transformative force of AI. While the first is a structural and redistributive one (policy determined), the other one automates away entire work positions. Neither am I convinced that AI and automation is challenging our current economic systems; because the relative value of manufacturing is decreasing in favor of information and production development industries.

I'd also like to raise an issue concerning the creation of work. Amazon grows a lot and so, naturally, its demand for workers is increasing as well, however, the growth is not so much about creating new business as it is about grabbing market shares from other companies. Therefore, while Amazon might look like a positive force on paper, its net effect (given the economy as a whole) is probably negative because it puts companies with more employees per service out of business.

Now with all that said, I must end with a positive note. I think that the journalists made a fantastic job, seeking out a wide range of people and meeting them where they were. Tpersonaloperate

I love working but I hate working if that makes sense. I would do woodworking in my own time if I didn’t have to work and got paid not to work. I’m okay not working anymore but politicians need to step up

I'm all for retraining but this big push to train people to code is BS. Between coders in Asia willing to work for $5 USD per hour and rampant age discrimination in the industry very, very few of those retrained to code will find meaningful employment. Also IMO you've got to love to code. You can't just do it for a paycheck. It's much too hard. The short term answer is UBI.

Oh yes Comrads! Let’s make the government take over everything & control what’s produced & how.
I much rather companies & workers dictate market demand rather than a party or politicians do these things. When people that don’t generate wealth control what people that do can produce is when societies go downhill. We’ve seen this many times in the past but still Vice pushes for big government? Seriously, I don’t get it.
And again, when you equate being rich to being white & male (34:00) you make me want to vomit. Being rich gets you privileges, race & gender won’t get you anywhere.

Can you guys (Vice) resist to shove identity politics in an otherwise interesting program?
BEING WHITE OR MALE DOESN’T SOLVE YOUR PROBLEMS. (34:0034:11) That’s pathetic. There are many white guys struggling with the economy as well. Seriously, you keep tainting journalism with this garbage.
Also, why do you think the government is so much better than companies? People creating jobs are better than politicians. People think that with big government they’ll get Teddy Roosevelt, but more often than not you get someone like Maduro.

It is poor jounalism when you ask a low paid, precarious worker in front of their boss "do you like your job?"…..what do you think they will say? Also really poor taste/boring to keep asking rich men in powerful secure jobs "so how do you respond to 'uneducated' people losing their jobs?" Also stupid to oly interview people with the name of their employer, full name, etc. ….journalists know that is not how you get the full facts. What I would like to see: A reality show that takes a group of rich CEO and VP's and force them to live in a factory district (aka ghetto) and make them work in a factory for a month, then loss their job and live on welfare for a couple months. No contact with their rich buddies or families during the process. Sick to see how Americans are still drinking the capitalist koolaid that huge subsidized companies are going to take care of you, give you meaning, and create a great future. Remember you are valuable as a human being and need to contribute to a community and society. Humanity is screwed because a tiny group of very rich, greedy people are enabled to make unlimited money doing whatever they want and they will eliminate as many human jobs as possible. It is a choice not a destiny.
