The easy fix is to not click any links from random users or download anything they tell you to. But of course, gullible 12-year-olds and elderly people who know nothing about the internet will always fall for this kind of thing, which is why it'll never go away…

That's not an abuse at all, it's literraly like every cdn server, and the statement that people think discord = safe is just so dumb and not true that I'm not even going to talk about that…. The only true thing that is useful is that alot of rats use discord as cnc server for their rats just because you don't have to host a server anywhere like in ordinary rats

I wouldn’t say this is discord’s problem I think users need to use basic logic when it comes to files and links

I thought this was gonna be "hackers take control of discords cdn and give you malware without even running the software" not "hackers using discord to host their malware" the video idea is somewhat mediocre but the actual editing and overall quality of this video is pretty good honestly

Anyone have a simple explanation of the discord business model, privacy and what the heck they are doing with network traffic (ie what are they doing with all of their raw ip addresses using UDP on port 123)? Just signing up for a discord account generates traffic to/from 4-8 random ipv4 addresses using port 123. I signed up for an account while contributing to an open source project, but without a clear explanation of what they are doing I didn't whitelist the traffic. Promptly attempting to delete the account failed too. Now I constantly block their junk in a firewall. What's their deal? How are they financed, and why should anyone use their trackerware?

. _ . I sometimes send programs to people thru discord, their sketchy as hell and I usually tell people it's probs not recommended to run a program from a stranger, issue is I dunno how else to send them — cinnamon (the app I made which gets rid of the windows activation watermark) would probs be removed from the likes of GitHub . . . (And the code is shit – made in winform using c# all it does is hook into a window, but it's a null Ptr – I accidentally found not giving the api any val hooks into the watermark – thus allowing you to resize it to 0, 0) – put a timer in and run it in a loop, probs coulda used an background worker and invoke it – but I doubt there would be much of a performance improvement in doing so ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Here's the code for anyone wondering though:

I could use Teams maliciously, just like I could with discord. If people are stupid enough to get malware from a closed social media it's not discord's fault

Okay but isn’t this obvious? Discord really has no fault here and there is no way for them to prevent this. Just like any file sharing capable messenger application you can send any type of file. Telegram, email, skype, facebook etc. Not sure why Discord is so special. And there is a very simple solution to avoid this malware. Just don’t download anything sent in random discord servers or from random people in your dms. It’s very simple common sense that goes for any application/website.
